Keeping Her by Cora Carmack

About Keeping Her:
Garrick Taylor and Bliss Edwards managed to find their happily-ever-after despite a rather . . . ahem . . . complicated start. By comparison, meeting the parents should be an absolute breeze, right?
But from the moment the pair lands in London, new snags just keep cropping up: a disapproving mother-in-law-to-be, more than one (mostly) minor mishap, and the realization that perhaps they aren’t quite as ready for their future as they thought.
As it turns out, the only thing harder than finding love is keeping it.
Between the lines … the Review
By Contributing Reviewer: Kat Summers
The novella Keeping Her by Cora Carmack is a sequel to her first published book Losing It. Once again we meet an adorably awkward Bliss, who manages to get herself into some truly cringe-worthy situations, and her unique way of thinking had me bursting out laughing on a regular basis. Garrick is as British and handsome as ever, but as he returns to London and his childhood home, it becomes clear that his past was not just sunshine and unicorns. He is happy now living in America with Bliss at his side but will their relationship sustain the hardships of the future?
[Garrick] “My biggest fear was that someday she would talk herself out of our relationship. That she would shake her head and listen more to her own poisonous thoughts than the words coming out of my mouth”.
It is satisfying to get to know more of Garrick’s background, and Cora Carmack has provided even more of an insight into his character by writing about half of the novella from Garrick’s point of view. With the changing points of view she changes the writing style to match Bliss’ and Garrick’s backgrounds, and the writing style in general is unpretentious and suits the feel of the story.
The reader is brought into the craziness from the beginning, and the conflict that the story revolves around is presented right away. Unfortunately the drama is not going to keep you up to the wee hours in the morning reading. However, keeping in mind that it is a novella, and only about 100 pages, it is an opportunity to check in with your friends Bliss and Garrick, and it does leave you wanting more.
